This PAGE ISN't about us, it's about you.

We are not vendors. We're an extension of your team, across brand and web.

Our History

We're Founders too.
We get it.

Paper Tiger was co-founded in 2008 by brothers Marc and Jason Debiak as a creative outlet and an excuse to play with new technology. When Creative Director Mirko Santangelo joined the partnership, the agency transformed from great to elite. 17 years later, the team is larger and the client logos are more recognizable, but the love for the work hasn't changed.

How We Work

Clarity and impact are non-negotiable

Grounded in experience

17 years of enterprise-scale redesigns, high-stakes launches, and systems built to grow. We’ve led projects where failure isn’t an option.

Partner-Led Projects

Principals are involved in every project. Our team is senior by design and our clients work directly with our leadership and the team doing the work. No layers, no telephone game, no waiting on someone to get back from another time zone.

Emphasis on efficiency

We follow an internally developed method we call GOC - Gather, Organize, Craft. It's how we move from strategy to launch without the chaos that usually derails website projects. We gather what matters, organize it into something that makes sense for your audiences, then craft the experience with precision.

Success requires definition

Building something beautiful isn't enough. Design is a tool for creating value and solving problems, not just aesthetics. To be successful, we need to know what success looks like and how to measure it. That means defining a long-term strategy for iteration and improvement that continues after launch, not just hitting a single milestone.

Work with great people

Cultural fit is how we ensure success. It applies to who we hire and who we work with. Work doesn't need to be boring, and we accomplish more when we enjoy the process and treat people well.

We never do the same work twice. Every challenge is an opportunity to refine our process and expand our knowledge.

Every project is custom
Every approach is collaborative
Every result moves people

Jason Debiak

Founding Partner, COO

Be honest about who you are, not who you think you should be.

Jason

As co-founder and CCO of Paper Tiger, Jason balances strategy with aesthetics to ensure what the agency creates not only looks good but works hard for clients. His ability to see issues before they arise helps keep projects on track, and his approach to every challenge as a puzzle to solve drives innovation across the team. He's focused on playing to individual strengths, finding ways to innovate while hitting deadlines, and building trust with clients who realize Paper Tiger isn't just a vendor but a partner invested in making their business better.

Jason approaches client work by getting past the formalities to really understand who they are and what they care about. He wants to become a fan of their business before making recommendations, which allows him to develop strategies rooted in genuine understanding rather than assumptions.

His work blends deep care for details with focus on the bigger picture, solving problems rather than chasing trends. He draws inspiration from fine art, publication design, nature, and old films rather than following design trends, which brings fresh perspectives to digital work. He also spends time learning new approaches that could save the team significant production hours.

Outside of work, Jason is a dad to two amazing girls and believes creativity doesn't turn off when you leave the office. It's a way of seeing the world. He's always reading and re-reading "Untethered Soul" by Michael Singer, learning how to shut off the noise and stay present.

Marc Debiak

Founding Partner

"Wakefulness is the way to life. The fool sleeps as if he were already dead, but the master is awake and he lives forever."

Gautama Buddha

As co-founder of Paper Tiger, Marc leads growth and strategy for both the agency and its clients. He listens intently in the early conversations before projects begin and throughout each engagement, acting as both cheerleader and advocate. With a background in engineering, he oversees the development team and innovation in that discipline. He's a Webflow certified developer who has embraced low-code technology, which has been a game changer as someone who doesn't easily remember syntax. Coding alongside an AI assistant or in a platform like Webflow with a visual interface allows him to do things he wasn't able to before.

Marc is a deep listener who gets satisfaction from translating what he hears from clients into real project plans. When he's interested in something he absorbs information about it, and each client brings a fountain of new things to learn.

For him, Paper Tiger itself IS the latest project, and he can't point to any one favorite because that would be like a mother choosing a favorite child. As a founder, he had to learn accounting when he did it personally for the agency for many years. That led him to learning more about budgeting and finance that he's applied outside of work as well.

An early riser and member of the pre-pre-5am club, Marc spends mornings watching YouTube tutorials and SaaS product reviews. He's an insatiable audiobook lover who has absorbed countless books on brand, business, and marketing. While he's loyal in all aspects of life, he plays the field when it comes to productivity tools. Outside of work, he has a few platinum records for the band My Chemical Romance and is an avid amateur genealogist. He completes the New York Times Spelling Bee nearly every day.

Mirko Santangelo

Managing Partner, Creative Director

As Managing Partner and Creative Director at Paper Tiger, Mirko leads all design and creative strategy, specializing in building scalable systems that bring brands to life online. An Italian native who brought his talents to the U.S., he's recognized for his leadership in the creative world through deep collaboration with prominent design platforms like Awwwards, Figma, and Webflow. His work blends creative strategy with execution, harnessing both design and code to drive business goals and enhance brand experiences for clients including Google, The New York Times, Meta, PBS, and Insider Inc.

Mirko's philosophy centers on balance. Design is a kind of visual communication where you must balance each element correctly to deliver the power of a product or an idea. There are no shortcuts in design, and the trip is never a short one. To produce great products, you need to improve yourself, your knowledge, and your skills. His work is a daily challenge, step by step, towards ever-elusive perfection. In 2017, he orchestrated Paper Tiger's workflow pivot to Figma, shaping innovative design processes that transformed the agency into a multi-awarded, seven-figure company.

A prominent figure in the Figma community, Mirko co-directs the official Figma users group in Italy as a Figma Community Advocate. He created a comprehensive Figma course with Domestika that has reached over 6,000 students. He's also a member of the Awwwards International Jury, a panel of professional designers, developers, and agencies promoting excellence in digital design. His design journey began at age 17 and has evolved over 16 years, mirroring a relentless pursuit of excellence. He's fortunate that his work and life have helped him create relationships with truly positive, imaginative people who share his passions for music, reading, and Zen culture.

Saad Irfan

Developer

Use AI, not as a shortcut but as a mirror — something that handles repetition so you can focus on judgment, architecture, and meaning of your product.

Saad

As Paper Tiger's VP of Engineering, Saad's role sits between design intent and system integrity. He translates ideas into structures that last like invisible scaffolding. When done right, the engineering disappears and only the experience remains. That moment of clarity when ideas stop shifting and start holding their own weight, and the work begins to breathe on its own, is always satisfying. He approaches staying ahead of the curve with curiosity first, process second.

Saad is excited about how the cost of duplication is collapsing, which means originality and judgment become the only moats that matter. The tools are getting faster, so the question is whether people are getting clearer about what's worth building in the first place. He believes complexity looks smart until it burns time, and taste comes from doing less but doing it right. Good engineering practice is about keeping structures honest and systems human, knowing when to build, when to stop, and when to simplify. Done right once beats done endlessly.

The longest tenured employee outside of the owners, Saad worked remotely as a full time employee from Pakistan for more than 10 years before immigrating to the US in 2022. Since then the founders have enjoyed introducing him to American cultural touchpoints like making s'mores and carving pumpkins.

Outside of work, he's drawn to complex systems that look simple on the surface, anything that shows how structure and emotion can coexist. His philosophy is straightforward: honesty over hype. Tools change, but the math of effort versus value never does. Most productivity problems are actually clarity problems.

Zoey Russomano

Designer

“It's not just about creating beautiful work; it's about building client confidence and helping them understand the value of the decisions we're making together."

Zoey

As a UI and UX Designer at Paper Tiger, Zoey creates websites that feel intuitive, visually engaging, and aligned with each client's story. Her work blends strategy and creativity, from wireframing and information architecture to visual design in Figma and Webflow development. On a daily basis, she translates client needs into designs, coordinates with developers, and uses skills like content strategy, design system building, prototyping, and usability testing. When the project calls for it, she brings in motion and interaction design to add storytelling and a more human touch to the experience.

Some of her favorite projects include Sizzer, where she loved the experimentation and motion throughout the site and the chance to work with the music industry. Cirtec and Guide were also highlights, each requiring a balance of technical precision with approachable design. She particularly enjoys working with startups, helping them bring their vision from the ground up and translating their ideas into a digital presence that helps them grow. What brings her the most satisfaction is learning about each client's story, what drives them, and what challenges they face. Helping them organize their ideas and turn them into something clear and meaningful is deeply rewarding, and the collaboration and trust that build along the way make all the problem solving and refining worth it.

Zoey stays ahead of the curve by experimenting. She's constantly testing new design systems, exploring features in Figma and Webflow, and pushing creative boundaries on real projects. She draws inspiration beyond the screen from nature, architecture, print, and editorial design because they all play with structure and rhythm in ways that inform her digital work.

Outside of work, she's drawn to anything that lets her create or make things feel more beautiful and intentional. She's passionate about personal growth, mindfulness, and finding meaning in small details. Creativity and organization isn't just part of her work, it's part of how she lives.

Ashley Adams

Designer

Anything and everything can be inspiration, you just need to seek it out. Working in design, everything starts looking the same because everyone is looking at the same inspiration. Seeking inspiration outside of our industry is incredibly vital.

Ashley

Ashley is a designer at Paper Tiger who has served as both creative director and designer on projects. One of her favorite projects is Vibrant, where she handled everything design from beginning to end. The client trusted her wholeheartedly with minimal feedback, and she was proud of the work. The site became one of the top 10 most liked websites on Landbook this year.

Ashley believes Paper Tiger's team superpower is delivering quality at a record pace. She approaches client work as a highly collaborative and symbiotic relationship, advising clients to be open to the process when embarking on a rebrand or website project. She seeks inspiration outside the design industry because everything starts looking the same when everyone looks at the same sources. For her, anything and everything can be inspiration if you seek it out.

Outside of work, Ashley works with clay. It's incredibly satisfying to work with her hands after spending days looking at a screen. She's a very analog person and seeks things outside of the screen whenever possible. She stays organized with a physical notebook, which works best for her even though it doesn't work for everyone.

Howard Shapiro

Controller

“I believe empathy is the most essential quality of civilization.”

Roger Ebert

As Paper Tiger's Controller, Howard manages all accounting and financial operations including budgeting, forecasting, reporting, payroll, and collections. He relies on analysis, communication, and accuracy to keep the agency's financial systems running smoothly. Since joining the team, he's transitioned from an Excel and QuickBooks background to Google Sheets and Xero, embracing new platforms that make accounting more efficient and strategic.

Howard finds the most satisfaction when finance supports the creative process. Whether it's improving forecasting and revenue tracking or ensuring billing and collections run smoothly, he values those moments when everything comes together—the creative work, happy clients, and seamless financial operations. He's particularly drawn to getting to know clients and their businesses, and he's consistently impressed by their kindness and appreciation for the team's work.

Outside of accounting, Howard is an author of ten books, a second act that began when his first book was published at age 40. The experience pushed him out of his comfort zone as a lifelong introvert, leading to book signings and interviews on TV and radio. He approaches his work and life by following the Golden Rule and believes deeply in the power of empathy. As a remote team member, he's known for thorough communication that ensures everyone stays on the same page.
